I heard from somebody that heard from somebody (yes, I know :P) that Phonehog will start to crack down on all the fradulent use, which I believe isnt even really that high. Anyway, Im going to keep looking, just was wondering if anybody knew anything or had heard anything similar.

And how do they plan on achieving this? I haven't used phonehog for a couple years, but when I did they allowed only one registration per IP address. At the time I had dialup so all I had to do was make a new email account and reconnect to the internet (true dynamic IP). Now I have cable internet with a static IP address, so I would have to use a proxy. Perhaps they will ban the use of more than one account per outgoing telephone number. For all the work you have to do, it's easier and less work to just buy a calling card on eBay.

Hmm, well okay for me, you only have to delete the cookies and then you can signup however you want, no matter the IP. I already use a proxy out of paranoia. As for the outgoing telephone number, I op-divert (as you always should :)) to the 8, meaning they are getting my local area code, and they cant ban all calls from that area (well they can, but it wouldnt make sense)
And by 'cracking down' I think they are just going to make it harder to get free minutes in the first place, although I havent noticed anything really different yet. I doubt that they would come after people using illegitimate minutes, and not even sure how they could do so, if one op-diverts. I suppose they could make a court case and have the telco find the number it was called from, although that seems to have very low cost to benefit ratio, as they can not make a real example of busting someone if nobody knows they were busted (A few hundred dollers in minutes stolen wouldnt make a great news article). In which case you could just use them from a payphone.
Screw calling cards, if I had money I would get VoIP :)
