1) If I install Linux on it, can I still play Xbox games?
2) Will FluxBox work on Ed's Debian, an Xbox Linux distro? Because that would 0wn, big time.

you can use linux and still play games. I modded my xbox, I got an x2 chip and a 120 gig hdd (that fits about 30-50 games). I'm not sure what linux you want, but if you do want linux you need a chip with usb support for a keyboard. And uh, download "slayers auto installer" and it has gentoo linux ready to install along with many other apps and options for new hard drives and flashing chips. Find everything at xbox-scene.com

I also made my own usb adapter takeing a usb hub and striping the wires on it and a controller extenstion . If you look at the wires they are the same color exept I think the xbox has one extra yellow wire. The xbox controller is actually a usb hub. Before I got my modchip I soldered a usb plug to my xbox memory card to install the font exploit.
Running your xbox with a modchip is much better IMO but running the exploit isn't bad either if you want to be cheap. Read all you can on www.xbox-scene.com before you start anything to save yourself alot of headache. If you got any other questions you can go ahead and ask me I will help all I can.
