I have two of these and nothing to use them for. Does anyone have any good repurposing ideas? How hard do you think it would be to put a custom embedded Linux distro on one of these things?

Daaaaamn, over $2K for an inline sniffer?! If you want the challenge of rooting what's there/hacking a general purpose distro on, sure, give it a go. But if you just want a tiny device with 2x Ethernet NICs that you can run Linux on, you'd probably be better off selling one (if you can) and buying general-purpose hardware. There's a lot of good stuff out there for reasonable prices.

That's what I said! They were in use at my place of work and now they're retired, just sitting on my desk. Last time something was retired and sat on my desk I put Gentoo on it. You're probably right though, we should sell them (and buy scrypt ASICs. ).

Yeah, even if you sell them for half price, you'll be able to buy some nice embedded hardware to hack on.
