I have two of these and nothing to use them for. Does anyone have any good repurposing ideas? How hard do you think it would be to put a custom embedded Linux distro on one of these things?

Daaaaamn, over $2K for an inline sniffer?! If you want the challenge of rooting what's there/hacking a general purpose distro on, sure, give it a go. But if you just want a tiny device with 2x Ethernet NICs that you can run Linux on, you'd probably be better off selling one (if you can) and buying general-purpose hardware. There's a lot of good stuff out there for reasonable prices.

That's what I said! They were in use at my place of work and now they're retired, just sitting on my desk. Last time something was retired and sat on my desk I put Gentoo on it. You're probably right though, we should sell them (and buy scrypt ASICs. :p).

Yeah, even if you sell them for half price, you'll be able to buy some nice embedded hardware to hack on.
