Finally got an Intel SDK-85 for the MCS-85 family of processors (8085 et al):

These usually turn up on ePay for several hundred dollars working, or $25-100 non-working/untested. No one -- including me until I RTFM'ed -- wants to risk a burned out mask ROM since the 8355 ROM/IO device is unobtainium outside of buying another SDK-85. Mine turned out OK, but the manual also states you can burn the ROM image into the field-programmable 8755 in place of an 8355. So apparently it's not so bad to have a burned out mask ROM if you're willing to cut a few jumpers!
