i remember when i was a kid i had this little box i got from a friend and it emulated teh sounds of a computer dialing. I used this all over the place to make free calls from payphones. Does this still work with modern pay phones?

It depends on the payphone. Most modern phones are COCOTs which won't respond to redboxing. You can find coin test lines to try the red box on tho.

Thanks for the info ^.^ i don't have a box anymore but i have seen a few tutorials on how to make one and a friend says he knows a site i can buy one from. Wanted to find out if it was worth the trouble before hand.
