How does the Slowloris DoS differ from a regular octopus attack?

As I understand Octopus is a genre of attack where as slowloris is specifically against a web server using half state http requests. You wouldnt therefore be using a slowloris attack against, for example, an IRC server application layer but could still be employing an attack which comnes under the octopus heading.
