LulzSec takes a break from hacking for a little bit of phone fun.

What do you guys think of all this LulzSec stuff? I think it's all really amusing, but I'm worried it's going to cause the feds to start focusing on hackers and they'll start arresting them for doing relatively harmless things, just like the good 'ole days.

It'd be nice if these attacks made everyone realize how horrible security is, but people are dumb and will just want to start a new War on Hackers.

yea, it is no doubt going to cast a negative light on anyone who is interested in learning and exploring with no intentions to cause harm or damage to the systems or information that they obtain..

i think that many of them are going to end up getting caught and spending a large amount of time in a cage, especially after targeting government networks and phone systems.

after this CIA DoS I expect some one to get busted. If no one gets busted then these guys are better than I thought.

Either way, definitely funny shit.

would not be surprised if the CIA doesn't already know who did it... but they will probably not act on it immediately, whoever is responsible is almost certainly under observation so that additional evidence can be obtained for any past illegal activities, and/or anything that they might do/have done since the CIA/FBI stuff...

if i was a gambling man i would bet on there being a few raids before the end of the summer on LulzSec and Anonymous members...

As well as raids to innocent hackers who they think could be affiliated with LulzSec.

Feds already focus on hackers. Every hacker board has a few feds lurking on it and this becomes more frequent the sketchier the site it. Once you get to board where people are packing and distributing trojans, packers, etc you can be sure that place is thick with 'em. Every 2600 meeting has a fed showing up to it if it's of any significant size, etc. Feds are always trying to get evidence to convict people. Sometimes those people actually did shit and sometimes they didn't. As long as feds exist, this problem will always exist especially for hackers.

Will the lulzsec attacks make them start trolling around to investigate 'em? Yup. Will/has Wikileaks caused the same thing? Yup. Just because the cops are everywhere doesn't mean we're losing. It shows how scared they are of people with hacking skills and what they could do with them. Even for the white hat/infosec pro this is a good thing as it means people are taking security seriously.

It seems like that is what lulzsec is all about anyways: making companies and governments take security seriously, fucking some people who royally deserve it, and getting some lulz in along the way.

Go lulzsec. Sure they'll most likely get caught and most likely soon but if they play their cards right, they might not get much time. Look at this for an example of somebody who outsmarted the authorities and got off with insanely small time: https://secure.wikim...i/Lucio_Urtubia

With all the access lulzsec has to so many systems, they may indeed have all the cards in their hands when they get busted. Then again... judging on the history of things like Operation Sundevil and how many awesome hackers got caught up in that, they'll probably just end up copping to everything and rolling on all their friends.
