That is if there are any left.
What about cheap ones that provide good quality service?

all of the free SIP websites seem to be from the same company - betamax - here is a website, with the SIP settings for all or most of them http://www.voipconfi...ster_config.htm
EDIT 2/10/10
http://www.freedigits.com/ seems to currently be down, but claims that they are going to be coming back soon...
EDIT 2/14/10
http://talkmember.me....php?lang=en-us currently PC to PSTN, but the site says that they will soon work with IP phones (assume they mean SIP devices)
http://callingamerica.com/ offers a similar PC to PSTN service

Since we are on topic...
Any recommendations for an inexpensive standardized VoIP hard phone?
btw: Voipbuster and Voipwise have the same exact page layout and information.
They are also linked to the same database because voipwise wouldn't accept my credentials from my voipbuster account because they were already in use. Unless there is another jonschipp using voipwise.
Oops! I just dropped my docs, now everyone can add me on Facebook.

for residential single or 2 line applications i would recommend just getting an ATA like a linksys 2102 and use standard phones...
if you want a SIP phone - not too sure about inexpensive ones... cisco makes the best, but at a price... polycom makes some cheaper ones, but lack some of the features or screen size that the cisco phones have..

yea, as i was going thru the links i noticed the same thing, and that is why i said

i did not do a thorough check to see if they are ALL betamax but the layout of most of the pages appear very similar, and the free country lists at least with a quick scan all seem similar...
if you need multiple accounts... and you can not get them from the providers listed here with the same email address, you could always just set up some free email accounts just to activate the account(s)...

how can a company, like betamax, provide free PSTN termination?
the service is not ad supported, nor do you get a DID, so they can not get money from companies that call their numbers like magicjacks business plan...

I'm wondering the same thing.
However the calls are pretty limited when using the Betamax services.
On VoIPBuster I can only place so many calls a day and it bitches
and after so many days I will lose free calls unless I use credit.
LEC expenses have got to putting a hole in their pocket.
^ If that's how it's done(Purchasing service time from a LEC, setting up VoIP -->PSTN Gateway)

FREE DIDs
http://www.ipcomms.n...ct-freedid.html
have not signed up for one YET - so not sure if you would be able to get a local one, or stuck to a single regional area code such as the ipkall.com service... if anyone signs up for one let me know if you can choose an area code, or if there are at least multiple regional area codes available for the free service - since this company also offers paid services, and DIDs I would assume you should be able to get an area code from just about anywhere, but not sure if they restrict available area codes for the free service...

that sipgate thing looks interesting... going to have to set up an account sometime and check it out...
with all of this free SIP stuff going on.. and all of these new features available, makes me wonder what google voice + Gizmo5 is going to end up looking like once google finally does something with gismo5 - they obviously have more resources to fund there service than these other free providers..

i also find that http://voipguides.blogspot.com/ is a good source of info... although either vinnay has been off his game lately, or there has not been much going on in the world of voip lately...

Betamax can be summed up with two words: black routes. Nothing but the blackinest of the black.

As for FailureJack, check out the current 2600 issue, someone wrote an excellent article about how they terminate traffic.
EDIT: Fixed comma in link
