My friend from telus (who shall remain nameless) has given me a new 2wire router and a Thomson TelusTV box.

I wasn't very interested in the 2wire router, I just added it to my wifi farm (an experiment to see which channel goes farthest)

but that aside, I was tinkering in the thomson, I found several Computer related components.

1, it has an 82801 PC Chipset, IDE and Compactflash (it has a 64, but I transferred the contents and upgraded it to 128)

It has 1GB Of Ram on hynix BGA Chips.

An ICS Clock generator... a Jtag port that suspiciously looks like the one on my old P4 Dell.

But the kicker is.

Its clearly running some flavor of Windows CE.

The problem is, the heatsink is soldered to the board and I dont want to wreck this machine, so I'll look up as many part no.s as possible :)

Edit: it still works and has service! but my ISP doesnt support NTP (it may just be my configuration but oh well)

EDIT!: Its running a Intel ULV Celeron M@ Possibly 1.0+ghz! I'm thinking of modifying it to run XP :)

Its capable of VGA! (mine even has a pin header but I have no spare VGA cables to hack up.)

Also Serial!

MOAR EDITS!!!
I've googled this box and i can hack on

2 more USB 2.0 ports
PS/2 mouse & keyboard
Mini PCI slot

and the hard drive just needs a power adaptor I can build out of an old CD rom audio cable!

That's awesome! I'm quite sure your guess for the JTAG port is right :) I guess you could install Linux on it.

I would make a home file server out of it, that would be nice.

Speaking of pci slots, I finally got in parts for my aspire one, and I just got done soldering the mini-pcie slot down, how ironic.

Edit: By the way, do you mean ide cable when you said cd rom audio cable? Or did you mean a regular 3.5mm jack?

I was going to make a Portable Game System/NAS/Video Streaming Device since its got plenty of USB and the bare essentials to play movies.

Buy game controller adapters for your favorite console and install an emulator with all the games :P

Make it a home media server, you could use it for games too, like all your favorite classic consoles.

INTEL 854 Graphics, which I presume to be a modded intel810.

I put a preliminary VGA hook up in for a bit, it runs at 720x480 and is quite clear, I'll assemble a full one once I get more scrap parts.

:)

My network doesnt support asking for the time from NTP otherwise I think they'd boot!

The 7segs are AC so thats why they looked messed up in the pic.

The bottom one is my first one and doesnt have its compactflash in, I'm still tinkering in it.

the top two have an older firmware and no buttons/display otherwise they're somewhat the same.

Ooh! the older models look even more fun man, I see actual pads for a FULL SIZED PCI, VGA, a Molex, IDE, More USB, several 5v and 12v connectors...

and the Bios seems to be more hackable than ever :)

And the cool thing is, my girlfreind found a compatible motherboard we can use to flash the hacked bios onto my machines with :)

The older models run on a P3 @933mhz, and the black ones run at possibly 1.4ghz on celeron Ms.

Dude, this looks incredible! I don't know why I took so long to look at this post! I'm thinking of hunting one of these down on ebay. I've been wanting to explore hardware hacking for a while, and this is just irresistible!

BTW: thepcdude is totally right. ftw.
