Yeah, it lasted for about 2 years, but now it appears to be down. It was a well known number, I thought everybody knew about it. Many believe that it actually rang to a traffic light. That may explain why you heard people, cars, stereos, etc. when you called the number. The number "supposedly" belongs to a business which is located right across from the City hall. I say supposedly because that's what the CNAM info comes back as. To this day, no one really knows for sure what this thing was...

Yeah, I remember that. I always thought that it was an intercom by the front door of some building.

Voice reads off: '200447113251187'
Then a familiar flurry of DTMF tones are recieved.

Identical to the number rpm describes in this thread: http://www.binrev.co...topic=11638&hl=

I recall reading about this same 'service' in recent 2600 issues as well.

206-278-9356 - Vonage dial-up system.

How I got the above number is very weird. It called my house, no joke. I came home one day, and that number was on my Caller ID display. I dialed it up, and a modem carrier came on. I think it's a router, not sure though.

213-233-0000 - "This is the general delivery mailbox" (@ night)
213-233-2900 - ANAC (Says "DNIS 2132332900 ANI {$YOUR_CPN}")
213-233-2901 - Buzzing Reorder

The ANAC number is what showed up on my caller-id when phoning from the Payphone 211 demo line. If you phone 0000 during the day someone will pick up from some management company (they didn't speak very clearly).
