I was thinking. It would be interesting is if we looked at some old text files (i.e. this old gem) of scans and numbers from back in the 1980s and early 1990s, and call the numbers and make an up to date text file of what those numbers are in 2004.

I love reading old text files with scans and phone numbers, and actually dialing up the numbers in the files. I'm often surprised when I dial up a number from those old files, and the number is still the same! It's just a feeling I cannot describe.

Some of the best numbers I have came from text files from 1984. You usually get about 15% working numbers in those files. Sometimes, for non-WATS numbers, you need to figure out the new NPA for the area.

And as for the 800-213-TEST (8378) number, the color changes every weekday. I still haven't figured out what the fuck its for, though.

It was playing an audio feed from a TV station once when I called it. Now whenever I call it is just dead silence after answering.

That sounds like the tone you get after entering an incorrect passcode on a PBX outdial.

haahah heres a great number!

i was having a little marathon of the simple life with me myself and i and we all noticed they actually showed paris dialing the 10 digit number she was calling so i finally got it after rewinding it about 20 times! and it turns out it was her boyfriend from sum41's cell number! what a loser! the last 4 digits are "1441" ooooh what a smart cat! lol

but anyways his number is an at&t wireless # in toronto.

its 647-292-1441

listen to his machine! SO GAY!!

When I was local to this number I found it in a scan. when I would dial it as you dial a local number in your npa (no area code) it says "It is necessary to for you to dial the area code plus 7 digit phone number when dialing this call. Please hang up and try your call again." Well that was weird. So I then called it with the area code first. Then I get the "We're sorry, it is not necessary to dial a 1 or 0 when calling this number. Will you please hang up and try your call again."

umm... ooook

the number is 608.676.9990

Not really mind blowing but still... wtf?

what the hell is 802-660-1642???

Sounds like the tone generator I used to use when I had to find lines with my inductive line tester. Maybe they use that instead of carrying around another box?
