Found this while hand scanning. Not exactly sure what it is, but if you press 9 it acts as some sort of monitor. 1-6,8, and 0 all simply play back DTMF tones. If you press 9 again, it stops listening. 7 seems to disconnect.

Anyone have any ideas as to what exactly this is? The background noise sounds very mechanical and industrial. Also, every time you start listening, you hear a loud "CHHHHHH" sound.

Oh, and +18002690031 is an AT&T Easy Reach 800 number. You enter the access code and it terminates to what ever number is on that account. It's like a personal 800 number.

Unfortunately, it seems the AIS I found there was shut down in late August and replaced with the digital announcement system that's currently present at the location. Of all of the ones I found, it happened to be the only one I hadn't recorded.

It will be sorely missed....

Yep, I got Angel Nails. That's definitely a 1AESS, an there were a lot of clunks after the guy hung up, but I don't think that's what you were referring to. I think you may be mistaken, because that guy didn't respond to DTMF

It actually sends more than one tone before it hangs up. Listen for the sound of the relay disconnecting the subscriber line from the incoming trunk to be sure of when it really hangs up. It should be a loud *clunk* at a time when it seems appropriate to hang up, but a similar sound can be heard when the 1AESS picks up the incoming trunk, and when the subscriber picks up the call, 410-362-9950 is a good example of this, since you can hear the system pick up, play wierd tones at you, and hang up.

mmm...if anyone feels like some se, since i dont have long distance until after 9, i think a nice script would be:
"Hi. this is jimmy mcdougle, with the telephone company, we were doing our scans last night, you know, for illegal telephone equipment hooked up to the line, and we had a report that there might be something illegal hooked up to your line...would you mind telling me if you have any computers or anything hooked up to (number) thanks, im sure itll only take a second..."

Yet another old AIS! The same as the variety in 419-646 area, only you can in fact not hear the MFs, unfortunately. The nice thing about this one is, though, that it lets you stay on the trunk for a good while instead of immediately dumping you off.
