It says "Were sorry, the number you have dialed in not in service. SVC 40 (or 14)" to me.

a few payphones from my last roadtrip

these are located at the rest center on interstate 20 in alabama, just across the state line from georgia. Strangely enough, they were all run by Qwest.

Well, I just found my local ANAC last night, so I thought I'd share.

958-6111 (when calling from inside the northern 780)

And some miscellaneous other Qwest recordings:

541.967.0020
milliwatt

541.967.0021
"The number called is busy. A special ringing will tell you when the line is free. Please hang up now." + reorder

541.967.0022
"You have cancelled your request. Please hang up now."

541.967.0005
"Your call cannot be completed as dialed. If you dialed the 5-digit access code, it has changed. Pleae redial adding a 1 or 0 before the 5-digit code, or contact the carrier for help."

541.967.0006
"We're sorry. Due to network difficulty, your call cannot be completed at this time. Please try your call again later."

541.967.0001
"We're sorry, a long distance company access code is required for the number you have dialed. Please dial the access code. Thank you."

541.967.0012
"Hello, you've reached the DMS-100 in (Albany?) Oregon." + reorder

541.967.9970
"We're sorry, your call did not go through." x2 + reorder. I like the sound of this one, for some reason. It's hawt.

718.762.9901
"Congradulations, you have reached the Flushing DS-0 in Flushing, Queens."

213-554-9901
213-554-9900
...
Weather for Los Angeles. I'm guessing it's this whole 213-554 prefix, since I didn't find anything else in there except the weather recording.

780.422.9901
"At the request of the customer, calls to this government of alberta number cannot be returned." + silence + reorder

When I call this number I have maybe 40 seconds of ringing, then a very high pitched sound for 5-10 seconds, then nothing, then call ending.

What is this?

I haven't personally called this number yet, however I tend to think that this is a payphone and some kid passing by probably just picked up and said that to be funny, since Exvitel says he got a high pitched sound after a few rings, this would make sense, the high pitched sound is a modem, which is found in many payphones, esp. Cocots

800 543 1244 I think it's an extender or a DISA. Not sure though.

Says "Please enter your authorization code at this time." Gives you two attempts... first failed attempt says you have an invalid code and second attempt says you have insufficent funds.

Resporg says it's carrier is Lytell Telecom, 800-860-1020

haha, Thanks TelcoBob. Yeah, my DNS has been flaky all day, so I asked TelcoBob to paste the numbers up, and he did. Gracias. It came back faster than expected, though. It was out for quite a few hours this morning.

Some other numbers from the phonebook:

780.430.2255 Telus Personal Voice Mail Access Number
780.441.2441 Telus Security
877.333.8888 Telus Corporate Security
780.493.6891 Harold @ the Telus test board
420.436.4000 Aliant Communications

Oh, and in case anyone is looking for a new prefix to scan, 780.441 is packed full of government numbers.
