Okay i have been using the widely circulated BIOS vista hack and am able to install vista ultimate without serials or activation. On several occasions when i tried to run automatic updates one morning when i started up the computer it detected the pirate copy. On a second try i disabled updates and it worked for about 1 month before the same thing happened but i think i used a genuine advantage download for some word template. My question is even after totally disabling updates does MS have a built in timer in vista to tell it hay this may be pirated because this computer has not downloaded updates in 30 days. or does the vista machine dial in to ms servers secretly/ Whats the story?
Does vista call in to servers regardless?

It's not unusual for people to disable automatic updates as a lot of businesses like to test the updates out before installing them so Vista wouldn't be talking to any servers about that. Genuine Advantage might check your activation in the future though.

Why not find out? unplug the network cable, startup wireshark, plug it back in, and look for traffic going to microsoft.
