I'm having problems using the host file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to disable webpages, http://hub.ebay.com/buy

The log:

127.0.0.1 http://hub.ebay.com/buy

It works with other webpages, also someone with more knowledge might be kind enough to share what I would need to do to block all ebay pages without using software. Thanks alot.

thats the wrong format, its

IP ALIAS

127.0.0.1 is the loopback address pointing to your own machine, but if that is the desired effect, the format would be

127.0.0.1 hub.ebay.com

telling your computer that hub.ebay.com is 127.0.0.1 rather than querying the DNS records to find the actual IP

/buy is a directory, hosts doesn't handle directories and folders just domains like hub.ebay.com
valid:
0.0.0.0 partypoker.com
invalid:
0.0.0.0 http://partypoker.com/folder/

Try using Firefox+Adblock Plus, more flexible and all around nicer to work with.

baby-hackribs: Care to elaborate on

PS: there are several "/etc/hosts" files in windows.

I just need to be able to block every page ebay has, I know I can use adware or some other type of program, but that isn't going to be possible in this situation.

Thanks for the help...
