As part of a project involving Sprint tandem switches, I'm trying to figure out the general area where they're located. To do this, I'd like to ask of everybody to call either 10-10-333-1-700-555-4141 or 10-10-333-1-(home areacode)-700-4141. You'll get a recording with a cheerful woman saying "Welcome to Sprint Long Distance Services! 51-(three-digit code)" . What I'd like is to have everybody post the general area from which the call was made and the three-digit code, which is the tandem ID. If you'd rather not post the location, PMing the number works just as well. Although the call *is* free, it must be dialed from a POTS line. For any curious people out there, here's what I've gotten so far;

NYC Area - 704
Florence, SC - 420
Montgomery, AL - 404
Concord, NC - 403
Southern California - 333
Charlottesville, VA - 220
Murraysville, PA - 121

Both numbers give the following (from Buffalo, NY):

"Your long distance service has been temporarily discontinued. Please contact Customer Service. 48-7-3-0"

i don't know much about tandems but, seeing as Montgomery is in a different lata, shouldn't it be a different ID?

Not necessarily; tandems are huge switches meant to handle a large area, at least in Sprint's case. AT&T tandems are a little more widespread, but it still isn't divided up in LATAs based on that. For example, there's a switch in Fishers Island, NY that has it's very own LATA with nothing else local to it, despite the fact that it homes off of a 4ESS in New Haven, CT for all direct dial calls which is used by dozens of other switches.

EDIT: Oh, yes, and the call was placed directly from a BellSouth (waitasec, I'm sorry. AT&T South) tandem in Montgomery, so chances are, it might even be taking the very same route as you to reach the Sprint tandem.

Major thanks to everybody that has and will submit their location and a tandem ID, you're all making this project possible :) . To be fair, though, I'll explain what this is all about. With either Sprint long distance service, or a Sprint calling card, you can access test numbers from a tandem. There's a couple of problems, though, especially if you'd care to access test numbers on more than one tandem, or from a calling card.. I'd say more, but I'm planning on writing a 2600 article on it.

Seattle, 206 area code: 640. I have Sprint long distance, so I get the same recording (and numbers) when I dial without the access code.

I can't, unfortunately. Sprint Canada doesn't allow their PICC (which is 1010348 in Canada) to be used on a per-call basis. =/ But it might work for someone who isn't in my area. But yeah. 1010348 is Sprint Canada.

Along this line, does anyone know anything about the difference (if there is one) between Sprint and Sprint Canada? Are they two seperate companies? Are they two seperate networks? Anyone have any 411?

[edit]

Nevermind. Sprint Canada was bought by Rogers a few years ago. S'why I havent heard of it I suppose...
