Unless you have the Broadband adapter for the Dreamcast then you will probably not really have much fine with DC Linux because its limited as to what you can do. You won't have a net connection without it. I know people are trying to get the Dreamcast Modem to work with DC Linux.
All those stories about people hacking with their Dreamcast was done with the following:
1 Dreamcast with Broadband Adapter
2 A custom DC Linux CD that automatically runs a certain script to do what they want.
They then just take the Dreamcast to some business or whatever and plug it in and turn it on.
Here is another tip. If you want to play with DC Linux you need the VGA Adapter and the Dreamcast keyboard. Without the VGA adapter you won't be able to see a lot of the text on the screen.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to put it to good use one of these days. It's funny because I've heard of people reverse engineering Gameboys to run apache hehehe. I think i may have ever heard about apache being run on a DC (which may or may not be in one of the links, I haven't checked them all out yet).
Good times, consoles are fun, maybe I'll pick up one of the newer three sometimes
Probably not though, hehe
