I mainly use torrentz.com. It indexes several of the most reliable and popular sites including PirateBay, Mininova, TorrentPortal, SeedPeer, and btmon. An additional feature i like is its verification system. Many well-known uploaders, like aXXO, have an RSS feed or some trusted source for their torrents. torrentz.com can access those directly, and if its verified, it will include a green checkmark next to the torrent link. Very nice way to filter out all the posers!

As for the clients, I use uTorrent on XP and BitTorrent on Vista/Linux. I've also considered making a BitTorrent appliance that's really locked down, with some mechanism for quickly getting the files outside of the VM if I think they are safe. It would probably just have BT client, SSH, and SCP for transfers. I would like to design my own cuz I'm not to big on those virtual appliances I've seen so far, which focus on usability/features more than security. Anyone doing something similar?

As for USENEXT, I had that. It's definitely fast, but has way less cool stuff on it. There are thousands of books, of every imaginable type, so its good for that. You also have fewer guarantees that the content is even in English, even if post is in English. Very populated by Germans and such. Way more stuff on BT trackers, and if you use a dedicated box, the download time isn't an issue. I can do a download for a week because (a) one taking that long usually doesn't use much bandwidth, so connection aint too slow and ( it doesn't tie up my main computer. A separate box also acts as an additional security barrier. There was only one thing that is plentiful on USENEXT: full-length porn DVD's. That's probably why that other guy is still using it. (oh yea,: it aint free)

I used bittornado for the longest time, i just recently switched to utorrent and i love it.

they're talking about trackers not clients, but yes utorrent is awsome.

Well for the most part I use newsgroups to download things (especially movies), but by far my favorite tracker is Demonoid, and I use Zcult-FM for comics.

i tend to use azureus and mininova. Tho, since a couple people have mentioned it, I may check out utorrent

btw in your opinion what's the best client? i use utorrent and like it, then again i don't think i've ever used a different client...damn im lazy....

I used azureus on multiple occasions because of its variety; the malware I always seem to pick up there, and the frequency of fake torrents, though makes using it an inconvenience. I haven't tried mininova, I will and I hope it's better. Efficiency is nice.

I'm not sure how the invites work. I got a Demonoid account when they opened for registration. I wasn't particularly impressed to be honest. There's less stuff on Demonoid than other other public trackers. Torrentz.com is still better for one reason: the verification system. They get torrents directly from uploaders RSS feeds, giving them a "verified" check mark. So, if the uploader is reliable as far as quality or lack of malware, then you know what you're getting right off the bat. On places like Demonoid and Usenext, you can't be sure ahead of time unless the comments are really honest. If I can do an invite, I'll send you one. I'm just saying Demonoid's awesomeness is more hype than reality. I use it as a last resort.

I used to visit Mininova and IsoHunt almost exclusively, but they both folded. So now it boils down to a handful of old standbys:

http://www.kickasstorrents.com/ - For the more "mature" (whatever that is supposed to mean) material.
http://www.demonoid.com/ - Demonoid has been a constant for as long as I have been into P2P.
http://thepiratebay.org/ - I visit and contribute to this site out of principle.
http://www.torrentomega.com/Rare - This site does a good blanket search, by checking Pirate Bay, BTJunkie, SumoTorrent, Torrent Portal, bittorrent.am, TorrentReactor.net, and Mininova per each query. Avoids the hassle of going to each site individually.

Another fantastic site I used to frequent was http://www.textbooktorrents.com/ which more than satisfied all of my reading needs, but they also lost their soul.

I would say: http://www.kickasstorrents.com/ and http://thepiratebay.org/ are two of the best.

I use kickass for really new stuff and TPB for everything else.

I've only used TPB for years. I rarely if EVER come upon anything that I can't find there.

I often use btscene.com 3xcept from tpb and demonoid.I think a proper verified section add value to a torrent site.
