the cards i have used:

BELKIN FD5 (wavelan chipset):

The belkin was an ass-cheap 802.11 card (the first i ever bought). It is supported in linux using the wlan-cs drivers.

LINKSYS wpc11 ver3 (Prism3 chipset):

This was my second card. At the time, the prism3 was not supported in linux, and my linux chops were nothing to write home about. The combo of these factors rendered it useless to me.

ORINOCO SILVER:

This card rocks... The orinoco drivers are included in most distros (making it work is a different matter). It has an input for an external antenna, and with the shmoo patch, it can support monitor mode; making kismet a fun and effective program.

for more of the information you need, the best file i can point you to is dual's card database located at card database

I would send you toast every night at 3:AM! Extra dark....I would change the settings to extra dark all the time, just to piss you off. I would have it make noise at random intervals.

HACK THE TOASTERS!!!!! :ninja:

You could hack all the toasters and make the toast come up and say "DDP Rules" burnt into the toast.

correct me if im wrong but i think you need to run a patch which is on the knoppix cd to make the orinoco card work. If by logging on the wap you mean getting an address on the network then i think you get one by dhcp once you're in range.

btw: 100th post w00t

OK, let me clear this up:

The orinoco gold and silver cards work in knoppix no questions asked... that is the 802.11B card. I dont know anything about how the "G" compatible cards will work in any distro. You do need to patch the orinoco drivers to make the card work in kismet, but its cake simple.

:help: okay yeah so that link you gave me bland i followed the directons but came to an error when after i
# cd /root/orinoco-0.13e
and then did
# make and
recieved: no rule to make target 'modules'. Stop
im getiing a permission error on the linl bland gave me but heres what it said to do

Install the Orinoco drivers

# cd or # cd /root/
# tar -zxf orinoco-0.13e.tar.gz
# patch -p0 < orinoco-0.13e-patch.diff

patching file orinoco-0.13e/hermes.c
patching file orinoco-0.13e/hermes.h
patching file orinoco-0.13e/orinoco.c
patching file orinoco-0.13b/orinoco.h
# cd orinoco-0.13b

# make
# make install

one thing should be noted tho the last line "patching file orinoco-0.13b/orinoco.h" should be "patching file orinoco-0.13e/orinoco.h"
