just iam going to need some help on it couse i dont know nothing right now but its very easy to use so far and was just wondering if you can download drivers for redhat and use them on mandrake i now if this was a windows os it would be obviouse but couse iam new i must ask and as far as all the .exe file i have do i just dual boot

ok, well if possible just get the driver source (code), and compile it on your machine, you should pick up compiling really fast, as it is one of the simplest procedures there are.
simple cd to the source directory of what you want to install and do
./configure
make
make install

the drivers might work, altho if it says they're for another distro they are optimized for that distro and might very well not work on yours. usually there are no pre-compiled binaries for mandrake so your best bet is source.

edit -> also if you wanna keep your options open, don't delete the sources after you install something (altho you very well could), if you ever feel like uninstalling anything you compiled and installed from sources cd into the source directory and do a "make uninstall" it should clear every file of that program

drivers work a little different in Linux. Usually they are distributed as source with the kernel and most people choose to build them as modules (i like a monolithic kernel). What are the drivers you are trying to use?

also when you install a new module, make sure to corectly set up your /etc/modules.conf file, or they won't load.

well i have a dell latitude cpx-h so every up to date driver everything workd but i was getting error msg's for my sound like sound server error's

problem one is that i dont know how to unlock the root
and is thair a file i can read to help config my drivers

root is a user name..wait is this knoppix or mandrake or what i got all confuzzled. if its knoppix go to the kde menu and look around forsomething called root shell

its mandrake and iam reading a file but the file i see nothing and i dont understand were to get the prog i need if you can explain in baby steps/give txt file

ok....well when you login you should login with the username root. does this help? sorry i might not be understaniding what exactly you need help with

no never login as root, login as a normal user and use the su command instead

well, its kinda true...i mean you have root permission for everything, although it wont let you delete windows....
