I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 and I love it. It came with WinXp but I canned that shit within a day and put Slackware on it. Not even one problem with it. It recognized everything. If you end up putting Linux on it, you'll need to research wireless cards. I bought a Cisco Aironet 352 off ebay for $37.50 and it works great.

Good Luck

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 and had no problems installing Red Hat Fedora Core 2, Mandrake 9.2, Mandrake 10 or Slackware. Well, only one problem, I can't seem to get the damn mini-pci wi-fi card it comes with to work, but its a shitty card anyway and when upgraded to a pcmcia card i had no problems.

Combining Smart BootManager and GRUB, you can boot pretty much anything even if the BIOS doesn't support booting it. The Orinoco Gold "802.11g" cards are Type-II.

I have an i Series 1400 that it's pretty darn good except for the worst designed barrel plug on the power adapter, but a little bit of electrical tape wrapped around the barrel and it fits very snuggly inside. I'd find out if your model has that problem - it's a huge annoyance.
