well, i got wine to run, but half life just hangs at the menu, when I click anything (even quit) it hangs. I also iinstalled counterstrike, and I can start it all up, but when get to select a server it tells me I have to install the "custom game cstrike", but I am running it!!!! so, the only way it would work is if I could activate it through half life (menu>customize>counterstrike...) but I can't use the menu, any ideas??? Or should I just reinstall everything and pray?

The other place to go for wine gaming is http://www.transgaming.com. These guys have a special version of wine called WineX that has been tweaked specifically for the newer games.

how about you choose a better game like quake 3 arena and team arena (i didnt like cs too much but its a cool game)

god i love Quake 3, funest game ever = )
theres so many people in counter strike and i hate those 1 hit head shots that so many people tend
to get on there first try

hey, there's nothing wrong with a good clean sniper shot. I love CS, its real compared to quake, i mean, the weapons are modeled after real guns, I guess its about your personal taste...

ya, i like more futuristic shooters like unreal tournement
they tend to be more faster

I was at the store yesterday and I had a guy read the box to a CS box to me; It said it was only compatable with win9X and NT4.. Now Im thinking this means that it will not work on win2k pro, but with cs comming out earlyer then win2k it may be that its not printed on the box becouse it wasnt out at that time.. since this thread is about CS I just have to ask, will CS work on win2k pro?

well, i have it running on xp, so it "should" work on 2000pro, I mean, they are basically the same thing (5.0-5.1)

Well i like quake more because well i know more about it ive been studing the consol on it sence it came out... and i make plenty of skin... maps... mods etc (never bought cs but half lif was a good game )

half life still is a good game.........half life 2 wil kick ass.......not as much as doom3 tho...

to answer the question: I remember at the time that M$ did not release a version of directX for win2K, so it would not work in DX modes. Also, some video card drivers did not work under win2k. So it is possible to get it working, but it wa the hardest of all the OS to get it running under.
