Current Events and Information
T-Mobile, Nextel of California, Verizon Wireless, Verizon California, Inc., Sprint, Cingular Wireless, and SBC joined together as a group and submitted a petition for modification of the Commission's decision D.00-09-073.
On September 25, 2000, decision D.00-09-073 specified that the 310 area code would be spilt in two, generally along Imperial Highway, when the 310 area code ran out of numbers to assign to telecommunication companies. More information about this plan (often referred to as the back-up contingency plan) is available online.
Instead of implementing an area code split, these telecommunication companies would like to establish a triggered overlay as the back-up area code contingency plan for the 310 area code.

The CPUC will be holding public meetings to hear your concerns about replacing the current back-up area code split plan with an area code overlay. A schedule of the 310 Area Code Public Meetings is available online.
