Haha, no, that'd be wrong, greyarea. I just mentioned that i'd be idling on the bellsmind 666 conference on thursday night starting at 12. Since its long past, I thought i'd edit it out.

I idled on BellsMind for a few days but not many people joined.
Telephreak, on the other hand, has a few users. Granted, there are a few newbies on there but at least its someone to talk to. So I idle there now.

The whole thing about conferences though is that someone has to sit in there as the only person. If everyone left when they were the only person in there, conferences wouldn't exist!

as much as I know that's true, I just can't bring my self to idle in a conf for more than a few minutes. I wish people would just call me so I didn't have to go out and find strangers to talk to people.

/me goes to find some friends
/me fails

whenever I would idle on a conf i would use a speaker phone so i could hear if anyone joined and not have a phone glued to my ear.

I totally understand it sucks holding a handset to your head for a long time frame and to top everything off your not even talking to anyone.

My speakerphone of choice these days is the Cisco 7960. People tell me it doesn't even sound like I'm on a speakerphone.

How welcome are n00bs in conferences like telephreak and bellsmind? I often have considered hanging out but I'm hesitant being the n00b that I am.

Yeah, hang out on a conf and try to pick up and learn as much as you can. It's one way to learn new things and talk with others that have the same interests as yourself. I remember my n00b days hanging out on the DEFCON voice bridge back in the early 90's. Grand ol' times right there....

I don't know about other bridge regulars but I don't mind noobs as long as they
1) Don't pretend to know what they don't
2) Put their phone on mute when it gets noisy
3) Don't switch the topic in the middle of a discussion about something else
You can expect some of that to happen in a public bridge though (Bellsmind 666, Telephreak 2)
IMO, the more the merrier on those bridges.
