SE : Pratice Line

I had and idea and figured it was worth starting a thread on.
I've wanted to pratice SE but of course calling up stores and such off the bat is a bad idea, it just wouldn't work well.

So I was thinking, we could setup a number or a skype id, whatever...
And setup a few departments with a few volunteers that know about the subject, then people could call in and test their skills legally and without worry.

Example....

1.800.number

Ext: 1- Walmart
2- Kmart
3- Verizon

Each extention would goto a volunteer that knew basic info on the subject and would go over basic proceedures....

So lets say you want to try walmart, you'd do some research and see what you could figure out about the place, then call into the pbx and hit 1 for walmart...

That would forward you to the volunteer who would pose as a walmart employee and you could test your SE skills to see what infromation you could get out of him/her or what you could get to from that point...

Just an idea but I think it'd be benificial....
Please let me know what you think...

as I traverse the web I pick up things here and there. and Due to recent activity at SoldierX.com I thought it would be interesting to check out something I had come across prior. it's called eyeOS. it is a Cloud Based "OS" that runs purely from PHP and Javascript. I have not seen too many Exploits for this and am currently researching any possible ones. I posted information at SoldierX.com about it if anyone is interested in joining the exploit search.

A phreaker project regarding...

I was recently at Office Depot and tried a fax machine on display and it was able to dial - I heard the DTMF tones but heard no dial tone.

So that got me started on a project to find if any stores with fax machines/phones on display will be dialable from OUTSIDE the store, so I'm going to visit some stores and test them and also scan some exchanges in the stores prefix to find out if there are any that exist.

Here's why I'm wondering.....
Some background info :

In 1983, there were 24 of these I stumbled on in Littleton Colorado (a suburb outside Denver). The stores involved were AT&T phone stores and their display phones were partially working so a customer could try the phone out to see if they liked it. Well for some reason, these phones had dial tones which you could dial into from OUTSIDE the stores. You'd simply dial a regular looking phone number (which was the phone number attached to the display phones at these stores) and get that store's display phones dial tone. And you could make calls from those dial tones for 10 minutes, then it would timeout. I tested them and another feature it had was that when you'd call the dial tone it would attach that phone number to your own phone line (again, only for the minutes) - then what you'd have on your line is your own phone number plus the display phones number! Weird. Anyway, I tested them and found you could also receive incoming calls using those dial tones as long as they were attached to your line (but again, this would timeout after 10 minutes)- all you had to do was to give someone the phone number to the "other end" of it (the end you'd call was, for example, 303-794-0016 and for incoming calls you'd give out 303-794-0014). And btw, you could make calls to anywhere on these, as if it was your phone you were using. Oh, I almost forgot another feature they had - they had call forwarding on them, and once for the heck of it, I forwarded one of the numbers to the next one and so on till all 24 were forwarded to each other.. then I'd call the first one and I could hear it forward to the next and to the next, each time it would "click" as it forwarded and by the time it was done forwarding through 24 lines, I could barely hear it anymore because the volume had drastically decreased by then. Someone else had found these too because I heard someone else using them and testing them - it wasn't someone at the phone company, in fact, he claimed he was phone company security but because I was so good at testing the lines I knew he was lying in hopes of hogging it to himself so I cornered him when he claimed this and I said, "No you're not" and he admitted it and replied, "How did you know?" haha.

So, with that happening back then, it makes me wonder if I can find some like it again. Finding the Office Depot fax machine thing makes wonder, because I pondered, "Why can I hear DTMF when I dial? Is there a dial tone somewhere, like maybe on a phone number if I scanned and found it? I wonder if there's more to find than this?"...so I have this as a project I'm starting.

Anyone who wants to participate and try to find some of these in their own area would be great. We can make a list that covers the U.S. if there are any out there. You'd have to visit some of these stores where they have these things on display and test them there and also do some scanning like I did above in 1983.

Conficker!

Hello.

There is a Topic in the General Hacking section, started by IndexPhinger who gave me this idea, that suggests that a group of the users on BinRev.com should join together, and hopefully find the culprits behind the distribution of the Conflicker Worm. A reward of $250,000 USD is offered by Microsoft for anyone capable of providing information leading directly to the culprits. At the moment, hundreds, maybe thousands of people are puzzled by this worm, they are unable to solve the mystery of what it does, what it is capable of, who is behind it, how to stop it?

Alone, we are useless, but together we could be the ones to help put an end to this Worm. Most of us are creative, and smart... we think differently to other people in the world, we have our own ideas and beliefs. If we join together, and work as one, we could discover something everyone else has overlooked, we could do something many others have tried to do... but failed, we could stop the Conflicker Worm.

I am not the smartest of you all, in fact in my opinion I am probably one of the least, but I believe that with enough hours of work, researching, analysing and figuring out Conflicker, we can stop it. Any information you find, that relates to Conflicker, which could help us to discover more about it, please post here. If you have any new ideas about what we could to to annihilate Conflicker, post that as well.

I hope that you will all join in and help, because every person is important, we need the help of everyone to do this. If you are looking for someone to be in charge of this project, I would recommend you talk to IndexPhinger, because without him i would not be starting this topic.

Thankyou everyone who volunteers to help out, and I will do my part aswell to discover the secrets behind Conflicker.

Good luck...

Project: Archiving Old Non-Game Abandonware

I've been rebuilding old "vintage" computers lately. In doing so, I've noticed there's a pretty big lack of resources concerning abandonware -- not the game variety, which is very much alive, but a lack of general software. So, I'm looking to start a project for preserving old software.

I've started with archiving all of the old software I have -- mostly stuff taken from 5.25" floppy disks. I've been imaging them using WinImage -- I figure more people are likely to use it, plus I can repeatedly retry reading problematic sectors until I get a full image. I've been mostly concentrating on things that are hard to impossible to find on the Internet; for example, a program written in Turbo Pascal called "Perfect Forms," which allows one to create ASCII line art templates which can then be filled in and printed out.

The idea is to get a good range of software utilities other than games. Software that would've been used by everyday users. I want to make it publicly available, since most of the applications are truly abandonware (a lot of the companies don't even exist anymore).

Any help or contributions would be cool. So far, I've just been using my personal resources. I've been picking up old software anytime I see a lot of it for cheap -- I've been buying up inexpensive lots of 5.25" disks from eBay for this purpose (we're talking 99 cents for a pile of 100 disks, so it's not much personal expenditure, and I can use the disks anyway). So, if anyone has disk images they'd like to contribute, let me know. If you've got disks you can't otherwise read and would like an image made of them, or just a pile of old disks you don't want anymore, let me know about that too!

Wifi Sec discussion / Demo & knowledge exchange

Hello Binrev,

A Wifi discussion & Demo is scheduled to kick off in Bristol, CT OCT 4th at 3PM. At 61 East main st in bristol in the old clock factory. The idea with this project is that this forum will evolve as more people attend and new ideas get tossed around, future forums/demos may have little or nothing to do with wifi I just thought this was a good start.

Here's what I've got for the first run:

The wireless security forum will attempt to foster discussion surrounding wireless security attack vectors, security methodology, and tools. The goal of the forum is to facilitate the open exchange of knowledge related to wireless security between attendees. During the forum the following methods, vectors, and tools may be discussed.

Security Methods:
MAC FILTERING
WEP
WPA
WPA2
WPS
Enterprise WPA/WPA2 (WPA+RADIUS)
Closed networks (Invisible)
Rouge Detection
Detecting ARP spoofing and Sniffers (using ethercap and other methods)

Attack Vectors:
MAC Spoofing
WEP Attacks & Crypto analysis
WPA Cracking
Deauth attacks
ARP Re-injection
ARP Spoofing
Layer 1 (physical layer attacks) AKA jamming
Evil Clones
Fun with DNS

Some Tools Explored
Wi-SPY (Channelizer)
Cain & Abel
Kismet
AirPcap
Wireshark (Ethereal)
Kismac
The Metasploit project
Fake AP
MadMACs
Backtrak / Knoppix /
A Microwave oven.

wardriving, warwalking, warcarting...

I've been trying to decide on an electrical engineering project for class for a while and one of the things i've been considering is an autonomous robot. I've also been messing around a lot with wifi lately.
We've seen wardriving, warwalking, warskating, warflying, warcarting, and warshitting but what about warbotting? A mobile autonomous wardriving robot could travel around an area looking for wifi, open access points, communications signals and anything else interesting. You could avoid the problem of having to leave your room and computer or whatever, although that takes all the fun out of war driving. The bot could operate completely autonomously and also have the option of user guided control. It would obviously need some AI, gps, object avoidance, and streaming video would be cool. Maybe it could have a live connection back to you through whatever internet it finds. It could map out what it sees in an entire area by itself.
It wouldn't have to be just used for wardriving, maybe it could act as an access point itself. It's annoying when you have a wireless router in your house and you have great reception in one room but when you go into another you get no signal. Maybe it would be nice for your router to grow some wheels and move around and look for better reception.
The major problems would be energy storage, environmental conditions, and getting hit by a car or stolen although as long as the GPS is intact it should be recoverable. Any ideas on how useful this might be?

Project Contop

So this project is something I've wanted to do for a while. It's not really a hacking project, but it's design is to be a mobile platform on which you can use from just about anywhere without any extra equipment.

The basic idea of this project is to build a computer that will run backtrack2 and work from just about anywhere and look really bad ass at a convention. It will also feature some good networking equipment so it is good for wardriving, CTF and Fox and Hound.

These are the parts I salvaged for the project:
Metal Briefcase - craigslist $15
15" Dell LCD - craigslist for $30
Pentium 3 733mhz processor and miniATX motherboard that were gutted from an old gateway mini tower desktop
4.5GB hard drive pulled from a scrapped laptop

These are the parts I'm buying new:
Alfa 500mW USB wireless card - $60
Panel Antenna - $60
Pico 120W PSU - $80
AC - DC power converter - $40
Keyboard with mouse touchpad - $60

I'll post picture of the assembly process once it begins, right now I'm still working on getting backtrack to install but having some issues with the cd I burned, I think the data got corrupted or something.
