arm: the reprise of risc

any thoughts about arm possibly overlaping/overtaking x86 as the main cpu architecture? i dont particularly like the idea as most any thing ive seen thats arm as its all just been embeded devices, which would lead me to think theres a reason i havent seen any arm hpc chips. as it probably wouldnt be to hard to transition itanium/power7/sparc to arm with gcc cross compiling. anyways.. i rather see x86 just for the standards, your pci, your ram, sata/scsi, psu, where it is possible to just buy parts and build your own system or upgrade the hardware, theres a bios that doesnt even have concept of locking itself to one os. which is somewhat different from a arm system on a chip.

I'll never believe anyone can censor the internet but I know idiots will try it.

We get enough from China (i.e. products), must we get their censorship as well?

Everything Is Assumed

Hi all,

I've been inactive for a bit, not for very long but a couple days or so.

Well recently I somehow got myself on a train of thought concerning existence which extended and exploded into more thoughts etc.

Now the point I want to make is we have 5 senses which are the ability to see, to hear, to taste, to feel, and to smell. Now from those 5 senses humankind has been able to observe and make assumptions on our surroundings and environment and ourselves etc. From this I want to add we have these 5 senses but none of them are able to detect our own thoughts...(I might get off track in parts but it is because I have so many thoughts and new points that arise that I happen to add here) So we can imagine things as well. This brought a question I read somewhere to do with proof and existence and the question went something along the lines of "If a baby was born without any of the 5 senses and you were that baby do you exist or do you not exist?" In some ways this is philosophy but the point is you cannot truly prove anything. There is no undeniable irrefutable proof of our existence or whether something someone says is a lie or the truth. If you have seen the Matrix movies or The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy you could say we are just a simulation by an amazing computer.

Basically the best way so far I've come up with to define or to get the point across with an easy to read line is "Everything Is Assumed".

Yes I seem to have gone a bit crazy but everything seems to continue on, as far as I know when I die everything will evaporate because I'm the one simulating everything...Or I've discovered the computer simulations secret.

Anyway I'm not that worried or scared I'm just trying to continue on and trying to ignore this thought but I wanted to share it with everyone so I can see what the thoughts of some of the other intelligent people on the internet think. I kind of find these thoughts funny because it is so crazy in court you might be able to 'prove' they can't prove anything at all (considering science which they trust tells us things exist which we cannot feel, smell, hear, touch, see who they usually use as expert witnesses).

Our Rights Are Disappearing

Hi all,

I think this relates to some other things we have been discussing of late and the huge security risks we see coming and encountering. This article though is pointing out not to trust cloud services and to back everything up which is obvious in a way to a lot of us and to not keep important, confidential data on the internet.

It is also pointing out though our rights to owning something we have bought over the internet that is software may quickly and suddenly change leaving us with nothing and them with everything.

Quote

It's not Big Brother that might be watching you — it could be your local mall.

A British company has developed technology that uses shoppers’ personal cell phones to track their movements through a mall or store without their consent, warned New York senior Sen. Charles Schumer.

SEE IT: Video shows how company can track cellphones

J.C. Penney and Home Depot are reportedly considering the technology, Schumer said.

Two malls would have started using the spyware Friday if his office had not called and raised the red flag, he said.

The so-called “footpath technology” is already being used in shopping centers in Europe and Asia, but Schumer has written its creator, Path Intelligence, saying the company needs to get shoppers' explicit consent before it is used. Right now, the only option a consumer has is to turn off his or her cell phone.

Schumer also asked the Federal Trade Commission to see if this new technology violates any existing laws protecting consumers' privacy.

anyone know anything about the technology behind this?

how would this be possible for a retailer to track your cell phone with out installing software onto your phone, or performing some type of MITM attack between your phone and the cell tower?

From: Nadezhda <@#$%&@yahoo.com>
To: @#$%@yahoo.com>
Sent: Thursday, September 8, 2011 9:17 AM
Subject: Hello my new friend!

Hi my new friend!!! I am very pleased that you responded to my letter.
So you to get to know me as well. I am very glad to this event. I
would like to know you more. But before that I would like to tell you
a little about me. I am a girl who is looking for his true love. I
decided to apply to the Internet to find happiness, a man who will
love and respect me. This is my first intercourse with a man on the
Internet. I've never been approached by Internet dating in the past.
Therefore, I do not know where to begin a story about me, but I'll
try.

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nadezhda. My
height - 1.73 cm, and my weight - 54 kg. I was born on November 10, 1981.
Now I'm 29 years old. When were you born? I live in is not a big city
Pokrovsk, which is located in Russia. You've heard a lot about my
country? I would like to tell you a little about my city. Pokrovsk - a
city in Russia, administrative center district of the
Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The city is located on the left bank of
the Lena River! The leading sectors of the economy are the river and road
transport. Leading position in the economy is the forest industry
(logging, woodworking); enterprise service river and road transport,
construction materials, food industry. In recent years, rapidly
growing oil industry. Agriculture has an auxiliary character.
Transport links provide a river, road transport. My city has many
cultural and architectural values. A large number, monuments,
sculptures, theaters, and of course churches. I love my city because I
was born here and lived my whole life! You tell me about your town?
Where do you live? Do you like your town?

Now, I would like to tell you a little about my life. From early
childhood, I had to live alone. I never saw my parents. Since they
have an accident when I was 2 years. The accident happened on the
track. My parents went to my grandmother in the village. On the way
they ran into a big machine. The bus, which drove my parents flew out
from the road, it overturned and they were killed. I do not even
remember them. I have never seen their faces. My grandmother just
died, but when I was 3.5 years. Then I had to live in an orphanage,
because I no longer had relatives. Now, I'm all alone. I have no
brothers and sisters. I had a very difficult childhood. In our
children's home was a lot of children.

When I was 7 years old I went to school, which was located next to our
children's home. I've always liked history. I always wanted to study
it. When I was 18 years old, I had to leave the orphanage. I got into
a world where I had to do everything myself. I was so lonely. I had to
find a place to live, work. I got a job. I was a clerk at the library.
I very much wanted to go to university. But I had no money. When I
worked in the library, I read a lot of books. And then I decided to go
to university. I am very lucky. I passed all the exams as "excellent"!
I came to learn from a psychologist. In this case, I continued to work
serving in the library. I liked to study people's behavior. I liked to
help people in situations where they feel bad when they need help. My
mother was a psychologist as well. I think it's my destiny to be a
psychologist.

At the University, I also discovered another interesting! This is my
addiction to the photos! We have organized a club with girls and did a
professional photo! We have acted on several model show!
Unfortunately, the town was small and we could not fully provide for
themselves, doing modeling. So I decided to devote his spare time
studying and working in professions! When I finished university, I
tried to find a job. But it was not very easy. Since many
organizations in Russia does not want to take young people to work,
because they believe that young people do not have the experience. But
after much searching, I decided to call my children's home where I
lived my entire childhood, and offer them my help in raising children.
Orphanage director told me that they were happy to take me to work. I
was very happy about that. And now for 2 years I worked as a
psychologist at the orphanage, where I spent my whole life. I like
very much to help children. After all, they, as well as I now live
without their parents. I have for them as a mom. I love children. I
believe that children are the angels that live with us on earth. In
this life, I'm looking for the man who could I truly love and respect.

At this point I have to finish my first letter to you. The next time
I'll tell you more about myself, about my work, about my hobbies and,
of course, about the relationship that I seek. Please tell me a little
about you. Where do you work? How is your life? I am very interested
to know you. I am very interested in Internet communication, as it is
with me first.

I look forward to your next letter to me. Your new friend from Russia,
Nadezhda.

PS to this letter, I attach some photos from my life. From my photo,
you will know what I like. My whole life is depicted in the photo. I
hope I will like you. Please send me your pictures as well.

Quote

Ok, *hb name*. This is my first ever message on an Internet dating site. So let's at least make it epic with a good reply.

Oh.. not to pull you're arm, but if I do not get one, a good one too. I'm making a voodoo doll of you, and gonna force it to listen to Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits, non-stop! :p

Seriously, how's the online prince charming hunt coming along? Any prospects, or just losers wearing tin foil?

HB:
Oh my gosh! I LOVE Barry Manilow! So maybe I will make it a horrible reply. haha jk.

Is this seriously your first message? lol. The search online is not going to great. But slowly meeting new people and getting in contact with old ones I knew back when I was ten. Lol. But ive had many of the losers who are married or in a relationship. Gotta love those ones!

How are you? And to be totally honest. I havent even looked at your profile yet. I just had to reply to your message. lol.

ME:
You know, I did actually try another free dating site. But I've been on this one since this morning. I like it a lot better here.

Can you believe, girl creepers! I took a lady to the ball game last night, I met on another site... At the game, she says, "btw, I should've mentioned this before, I have two felony charges...". At first I thought she was joking... When she went to the ladies room, I ran a background check on her from my phone.... She was totally serious!

She was really cute, and fun to hang out with, but the whole felony thing, was just a major turn-off!

I sure got the heck out of there, after the game, though! I brought her a bottle of Capt. Morgan's and a Red Socks shot glass (her fave drink and ball team). She was really curious as to why I didn't wanna stick around afterward.

I haven't texted her since; nor have I heard from her...

btw, my name is PUA Bob..

Omg, I'm at Starbucks.. This really, really weird person keeps starring at me! I cannot tell whether it's a girl, or a guy! They have really, really long hair, and are dressed like a biker! Think I'll head home about now.

HB:
LOL Okay so you send the best messages so far. Its not just the whole where are you from? What do you like to do etc. You really TALK. lol. Just thought I'd let ya know.

Yeah I would have been out of there too for felony charges. and there was a ball game yesterday?! I was wanting to take my kids to one. Did you give the cops a tip to where she was at? Lol. Oh maybe I should tell you about me felonies too then if thats a deal breaker for you. haha jk.

My name is Hot Cupid Model.

ME:
Well, I'm from the some-place area, born and raised tbere. Just recently have decided to settle town in somewhere, and end my nomadic tendencies between somewhere, another-where, and another-where.

Kind of a long story, but the quick answer is: father lived in somewhere, mom in here, and most of my friends in another-where.

What do I do? Right now I've been fairly busy getting my house ready to sell. I found a really cool little condo near a canyon I want.

What do I like to do? Would you believe I'm kinda of a total computer geek? I'm a Network Engineer, it requires constant maintenance on ones skill set. Networking technologies change so rapidly it is unbelievable.

Most of my winters are reserved for snowboarding; that's why I love it here. Where else can a person go up, and take a few runs before work?

I forget, what do you do for work?

HB:
Yeah see I've lived here my whole life and never once have I skiied or snowboarded. lol. I am not a fan of the cold. Well lets just say when I get too cold, I kinda start crying like a little baby. Well maybe not that bad. But I sure do want to. lol.

For work I do promotional modeling. So I just go out to different events. I do promotions for a big company usually at rodeos or local company. Then some other companies. Its a way fun job. Then I also do some modeling acting stuff. But not much of it. Because well.... I hate pics! lol.

So do you have any pets? Live with family? Alone? Roommates?
(ioi #1 she wants to know if I live with my parents)

ME:
You know what? I hate the cold, too. All my friends give me a hard time cuz on the lifts I shiver and my teeth chatter. Lifts are cold as heck. There are no obstructions to block the wind. BUT, the sight is breathtaking, looking down on the mountains covered in snow is majestic.

I actually live by myself. I want a dog, really bad. I'm moving into a condo near a canyon, and they don't allow larger pets. Also, I want a Siberian Husky. Here would not be accommodating during the summer.

I do kinda have a cat. The neighbor's 7yr old daughter has this huge fluffy cat named Mr. Snuggles. For some reason Mr. Snuggles has laid claim to my Jeep. He sleeps on it almost every night. He kinda scratches the paint. All I can do is scare him with a nerf dart gun.

I really do like ball games too. I went on the 24th and saw the team hit a grand slam! Very first time I've seen that.

My favorite are hockey games. But on a first date to one there is that horrifically nervous 5 minutes of the kiss cam. Ever been through that on a first date? Of course I've got a plan for in case it ever lands in the front row. Still kinda awkward to sit there looking at each other, then glancing at the jumbo-torn to see if danger is near.

Well I need to get cleaning. My real estate agent is gonna be here in a few. Selling a home is a real pain!

HB:
I havent been to a ball game for like a year now. And I went on a date to that one. I met the dude while working one day. Well most of the time at the game he sat there listening to his ipod! My friends were with me and I just remember I kept looking at them trying to get them to help me. Well needless to say my youngest who was only like 10 months old or so threw up. And he freaked out. lol. Didn't get on anyone. Just on the floor it was fun. We were leaving he drove there separate. He kept trying to go over to my house and I got out of it. lol. He annoyed me so bad!

I want to take my kids though soon. Maybe the next week I have them. I'll have to look at their schedule.

So how did things go with the real estate agent?

HB:
It went very well. With hopes I can sell soon enough, I'll have enough for the condo I want, a brand spankin new KX 250, and some money in the bank.

I looked at a condo in a canyon I want. It is a repossession tho. So if my house doesn't sell in time I doubt I'll be living 10 miles from ski resort. Those things are kinda pricey.

Listening to his iPod while on a date with a pretty girl? What a dork. Every guy should know you leave that stuff home. The only exception to the rule is if you have young children at home. Then texting and cell phone calls to the baby-sitter leave the common courtesy rule untainted.

I'm out in a city right now on a spur of the moment consulting gig, but do you text?

HB: Yeah I do text. text me my number is **********
