We have been bouncing around from company to company for the past year or so and I think we have finally found a "good" hosting company for a change. They are giving us a powerful server at a fair price along with full management, which will help us to maintain the server so that it is more reliable.

virtual hosting is fine for a small site with little database interaction. Then you have to step up to a more powerful virtual host or a low-end dedicated server. For us, that happened within a few months of the launch of binrev. When we were just stankdawg.com, we were sharing a dedicated server with some friends and we ended up overpowering the box and stepped up to a dedicated server of our own. This was also necessary because as we grew, so did our bandwidth needs, particularly with the radio show. Towards the end of last year, we finally exhausted our P4 3.2 hyperthreaded box with 2GB of RAM and 1.5TB of bandwidth. We needed a bigger box and more importantly, we needed help managing it.

For those of you that remember the end of last year, I personally spent almost every night up until 2 AM for 2 months trying to tweak every last bit of performance out of our server. It still kept crashing. We had several offers for hosting, but no one realized the power that we need to run a site like this and none of them were remotely capable or handling our needs. We a shopped around and struggled with a lot of decisions of how we might keep the site afloat. We could go the ad route, but we all know how google and I don't get along. We could beg, but I just really felt like that was a last resort and I do (contrary to accusations in this very forum) believe that I should try to make as much of our information as free as possible.

I think we have reached a solution thanks to caro.net and their excellent managed hosting services. caro was very supportive of us and not only supplied the box that we need at a very reasonable price, but they also are giving us that FULLY MANAGED service that we need. While we are very capable at running the box ourselves in most circumstances, at this level of power, it helps to have their experts on our side. It also frees up more of our time to get back to creating content... and sleeping!

So please consider them if you need hosting. They currently offer standard dedicated boxes without management (self-managed) or if you are like us and need the support, I am extremely happy with their managed servers thus far.
