Poll: New iPod, flop or future?

Is the iPod Touch a flop or is it the future of your media?

Well we all knew it was coming, some of us sooner than others, however the new iPod is offically out and starting to drive reviews all over the internet. The new Touch iPod is a max of 16GB of space to play with and mocks the iPhone, the only void I believe is the phone feature itself. While I do see an amazing product for the future that has delivered us back to the basics and the typical 'Keep it Simple' mindset Apple is known for, I can't help but be very disappointed. I personally am a owner of a 40GB iPod and find it to suit most if not all of my needs as a portable media device. My first frown was this 16GB size that turned me instantly off to the touch. I can understand somewhat of the reasoning behind this with the technology size that is being used, but does the iPod generation really want to sink to a lower size to bump up to future concepts?

I leave you with a poll attached to this to see how you feel about this new portable media Apple has brought to us. Let me know what you think!

typical Apple: overpriced, but well designed. It works, and it works well. I would buy it if it were half the price.

I tend to agree with this common statement. While Apple has never failed me in reliability and performance 'post OSX' and in their mobile technology, the price still remains the biggest ding against them. They have very high standards for Validation of their hardware and software which gives them that extra edge when I try to justify the cost of a device. I have had so much experience with cheaper solutions, only to be left with getting what I paid for. However I with this case my good ole Video iPod works great and I have no intentions of replacing it until it dies out.

I'll probably purchase at some point, but not right now. Yes, apple hardware has a premium, but it's genuinely good stuff, and I'm willing to pay for quality. The biggest problem is as neat as the new hardware is, it doesn't fulfill any definitive need I have, so my older hardware will suffice. My needs are probably simpler than some out there, though.

I think we'll keep seeing more and more products like iPod Touch. The line between portable media products and PDAs (and similar) is becoming more and more blurred.

Since I'm no longer own an iPod I'm considering picking up an iPhone or an iPod Touch. I just know that if I buy one now there will be a bigger and better one in like 6 months.
